Wagners EFC took out the top prize at 2013 BPN Sustainability Awards for its world first application in the precast floor beams of the mulit-rise Global Change Institute Building at University of QLD, Brisbane.
Announced at a gala awards dinner held in Sydney on Thursday 21 November, Wagners, together with Bligh Tanner Consulting Engineers and architects, HASSELL, were judged the category winner for “Product innovation of the year”.
On top of that, EFC was crowned with “Best of the Best” award across all category winners.
The judges commended this EFC application for providing an alternative to the highly carbon emission always associated with concrete.
“This kind of product offers an immediate path to low embodied energy buildings, and provides long term opportunities to feed into the design and building process of almost all buildings in Australia and the world”.
Joe Wagner, Michael Kemp and Tom Glasby were on hand to accept the award for EFC in front of a number of important Sydney based corporate guests at the Wagner table organised by NSW CFT Sales Representative Tony Gates.
While it is hard to measure the direct benefits of winning this prestigious national sustainability award, the publicity and promotion is sure to put EFC and Wagners in the front of minds of the nation’s leading design practitioners.
